Timber & Decking Questions
Answers to common timber & decking questions
Do I need to sand my deck before oiling or staining it?
In most cases, yes. Sanding back to clean bare timber removes the grey, weathered surface layer and lets the oil, stain, or sealer penetrate properly so it lasts. It also smooths splinters and uneven grain. We assess your deck first and tell you honestly whether it needs a full sand or just a clean before coating.
How often should an outdoor timber deck be re-oiled?
It depends on how exposed the deck is and what it's coated with, but on Geelong's coast a well-prepped deck typically needs re-oiling every 12 to 18 months. Water beading less and wood starting to grey are the signs to watch for. We can tell you what your particular timber and location need and set you up with simple care tips between visits.
Why is my indoor timber floor fading or looking dull?
Sunlight and salt air break down the protective coating on timber floors, leaving them looking dry and dull. We sand and re-coat interior timber floors, stairs, and balustrades so they're resealed and protected. Using the right interior-grade finish and a simple care routine keeps them looking rich and even.
